It is paradox: For one thing, the body requires cholesterol—on the downside, too much of it leads to arteriosclerosis and can lead to a heart attack. As with many other things in life, it is the dose that makes the poison.

Therefore, it is interesting to take a closer look at the mixed blessing cholesterol. Simply said, cholesterol is a lipid-like substance, which is essential to human life. Each cell in the body requires cholesterol to stabilize its cell wall.

Furthermore, cholesterol is required to produce gall acid in the liver. It also helps to produce vitamin D—important for the generation of bones. Cholesterol also contributes to the generation of sex hormones, like testosterone and estrogen.

You see, cholesterol is important for us as humans and this is the reason, why our body produces one gram of it daily. The substance, generated in the liver, covers our own consumption—even if our diet is completely free of cholesterol. With animal fats, our body consumes additional cholesterol.

As cholesterol is hardly water-soluble, it cannot be transported in the blood very well. Therefore, the body covers it in protein shells, which float in the blood. These shells are called lipoproteins. There is a distinction between lipoproteins with low density (LDL=low density lipoproteins) and lipoproteins with high density (HDL=high density lipoproteins).

You know this. You have surely heard of “good” and “bad” cholesterol. There is a distinction between LDL and HDL: A high LDL level endangers the heart, while a high HDL level is beneficial to your health.

The cholesterol in the HDL shells is the “good” cholesterol. The HDL molecules pick up cholesterol, which has already deposited in the vascular walls, and cart it away. They bring it to the liver, where it is processed and dismantled. So, HDL counteracts arteriosclerosis: The higher the HDL value, the better.

The LDL cholesterol, on the other hand, which we often consume with saturated fatty acids in food made from animals, can be dangerous, because the LDL shells transport the cholesterol to the organs. There it is channeled into the cells at specific receptors and processed further.

If, however, there is too much LDL in the blood, it tends to deposit at the walls of the arteries and to clog the blood vessels. The vessels become more and more narrow, and the blood is not able to flow freely anymore—this is arteriosclerosis. Therefore, the level of LDL cholesterol should be as low as possible.

A survey, which analyzed 14 studies with a total of 90,000 patients, found an unambiguous relation between high cholesterol values and the risk for a heart attack. The reason: If the cholesterol level is too high for a longer period, excess cholesterol is deposited at the vascular walls. These deposits are called “plaques”. The narrowed blood vessels are not able to transport the blood correctly.

Very often, such plaques form in the coronary arteries, the very tiny blood vessels, which supply the heart with blood. The narrowed coronary arteries are not able to supply enough blood and oxygen to the heart—leading to coronary heart disease (CHD).

In the worst case, the cover of a plaque is destroyed: Then, a fatty cholesterol mass pours out in the blood and, within seconds, forms a blood clot, which completely blocks the blood vessel. This leads to a heart attack.

It is therefore of utmost importance to support a health cholesterol level. Nature has very effective plants for prevention readily available. Seit zwei Monaten nehme ich diese Kapseln ein. Diese sind leicht zu schlucken, der Geschmack ist gewöhnungsbedürftig. Ich hatte einige Statine eingenommen sowie spritzen bekommen, die ich nicht vertragen habe. Ich beschloss auf natürliche Weise was einzunehmen, auch nehme ich better c ein und.vitamin D, was auch gegen den hohen Cholesterin helfen soll. Wie weit diese Kapseln helfen kann ich erst im April mitteilen, dann wird bei mir wieder Blut abgenommen. Werde aber diese weiter einnehmen, bin gespannt was der Laborwert sagt. Vielen Dank

Guten Abend, Anfangs war ich sehr skeptisch und bin es auch noch eine Zeit geblieben. Mein Xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx war alles andere als gut. Klar es lag auch viel an meiner Ernährung, „klar“ aber das zu ändern ist schwer. Als ich dann QVC gesehen habe, wollte ich erstmal umschalten, blieb aber irgendwie hängen.
