Did you know, that a human consumes around 40 whole pigs during his or her life? Hundreds of chicken, around 6.5 tonnes of vegetables and other things? In the course of his life, the average human consumes roughly 30 tonnes of food. Isn’t that hilarious? This is accompanied by about 50,000 liters of beverages, like water, juices, beer, wine, coffee, and tea. This is hard work four our digestive system.

And our stomach and our intestine share the majority of this work. The stomach pumps the partially digested food bolus into the intestine. Here, the digestion continues. While in the stomach bacteria are eliminated and the small intestine contains only very few of these microorganisms, the number of bacteria, which contribute to digestion, increases towards the end of the intestine again. In the upper parts of the small intestine, one milliliter of intestine content contains 100 to 1,000 bacteria. In the colon, this number increases up to 100 trillion. All these bacteria in the intestine, also called intestinal flora, help in digesting all what we consume during our lifetime. But the intestinal flora has more than this task.

The intestinal flora can also stimulate the immune defense of the body. Therefore, it is worthwhile to care for your own intestinal tract. Because the composition of the intestinal flora can be influenced by several factors. Diet is, of course, an important part. Who primarily feeds on hot dogs, chocolate marshmallows, cake, pizza, fries, lemonade, and soft drinks, can ruin his or her intestinal flora within weeks. But also antibiotics can kill several useful bacteria in the intestine.

For an intact intestinal flora, several very specific bacterial strains are important, for example bifidobacteria, lactococcus, and lactobabacillus. This may be the reason why they make up the largest part of the intestinal flora. Our product “Lacto-Flora 8” contains exactly these kinds of bacteria. Each individual capsule contains six billion pure, living bacteria of eight different bacteria strains! Those very important bacteria strains are packed in a cellulose capsule, which is resistant to gastric juices, to prevent a destruction by gastric acid and allow the bacteria to reach the intestine unharmed.
